Cybercrime Law

Life is not as easy as clicking a link and getting into the next page. It takes effort and great security for you to follow the right road.

Last Saturday, April 25, 2015, I attended a seminar which entitled Cybercrime Law. It was organize by our class’s adviser for one of our professional subjects. I am personally pleased to be listening to someone who pretty much knew the law and how it goes. Our speaker is a NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) agent wherein he is a certified cybercrime forensic investigator and gathers more certificates rather than that. He is Sir Rod Panay.
I definitely had a wider view of the law after the said seminar and with that I am deeply blessed that somehow I can share the thoughts that I learned and give my own opinion as well.
My way of summarizing the things that our speaker shared to us is in a form of collage or pictures.

I personally made the collage for the things that I understand. Each picture symbolizes or represents something that I had learned and is said in the seminar, though I will be rephrasing and giving my own twist on it.

ü  Black man in the hat – it symbolizes hackers. Hacker is someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network. In the cyber crime law these people must be prevented to do such acts that will lead to the destruction of other people's property.

ü  https with a locked – it symbolizes assurance of the website you are in. For your information and data’s to be secured, make sure to check and be aware of the site you are in all the time.

ü  Computer with an exclamation mark symbol – it symbolizes that development of ICT that is increasing. There is an exclamation mark in the computer, meaning the danger is following with the development. In the seminar, the speaker mentioned that as the people in the authority, are thinking of the solution, the people in the other side is creating another danger.

ü  SSL- it also symbolize security and assurance of the websites just like he https. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

ü  Locked folder – it symbolizes security of your files. As you enter to the internet world where in millions of people can see your information, be sure to be true to your records yet protective for you not be exposing every details of yourself. For in the cybercrime law, getting other people’s identity is a no-no yet a lot of people still violating it.

ü  Red shield- it represents anti-virus. In every files or data that you input in your computer, be mindful of it, that it must not cause you to trouble.  Also, in everything that you will do in the internet world be protective. Make sure that you have your own protection like in your emails and your passwords.

ü  Web Cam – it symbolize awareness. If things seem not normal in your eyes be alert. Think before you react. Like in the cybercrime, if files or data’s of yourself is lost or being hacked, report it to the authority.

ü  The big lock definitely symbolizes security. It is somehow emphasize for with all the information given by sir security is one of the gees of it. It emphasize how computer can be dangerous so be "locked" with your personal informations.

Here are some of the terms that I learned from the seminar:
Ø  Phishing – it is an illegal action which is acquiring information and data’s such as names, passwords and the like which are not yours.

Ø  Pharming – this is a modus wherein you will be directed to a fake website that will result to giving your accounts and the like.

When it comes to promoting computer to the university, writing is still the best way whether its traditional or modern. I can promote proper use of the computer in a traditional form by using journals or magazines specifically published in schools. This is a direct way to "hit" the students heart of this issue. When it comes to modern, I am pretty sure that posts, blogs, and reviews of what ever topic is read by the students online therefore why not maximize the use of internet through promoting proper use of it.Like this blog, and other Facebook posts it would be a wake up call for the students to be aware of the Do's and don'ts of the computer usage.

******

I admit that before the seminar, I already close my door regarding this issue. It is somehow did not interest me for I am not the type of person who would be in the computer for the reason of leisure. But it all change because of this seminar. I never thought that I am truly affected by all of this.

When it comes to the law, I think that it is now justifiable to me why it has been approved. It protects network citizens on the things that the internet may cause. It serves as treat to people. The law gives a wider view of the dangers and don’ts of the internet world.

For over all, I deeply appreciate the seminar regarding the cybercrime law for I finally understand why some things in the internet are not allowed to be done and the precautions of the danger of the internet world.
